NCAA Retooling Aviation Economic Regulation To Unlock Growth, Devt – Najomo

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is actively revising policies to unlock new opportunities and attract investments that will foster economic growth and prosperity in the aviation sector.

Acting director-general of the NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo revealed this during the North-Central Regional Air Transportation Summit held in Abuja on Wednesday. Represented by Capt. Donald Tonye Spiff, the director of operations, licensing and training at the NCAA, Najomo emphasised that enhancing operational efficiency, financial stability and service excellence will create substantial value for stakeholders, boosting economic development.

He highlighted the importance of the summit, the third in its series, noting its critical role in achieving the NCAA’s goals under the leadership of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN. “With the support of the minister, we are committed to rebranding, reinventing, and rejuvenating Nigeria’s aviation sector for international competitiveness and sustainable growth,” Najomo said.

The acting DG stressed that a sustainable regulatory framework, built on collaboration and engagement with key stakeholders, is essential for achieving operational excellence and sector growth without compromising safety standards. He added that aligning with both local and international regulations is fundamental to the NCAA’s strategic focus.

Najomo also praised the summit’s theme, “Building a Viable Aviation Industry for National Economic Growth and Development,” which he believes will foster dialogue among industry players. He urged stakeholders to address service deficiencies and funding gaps, which have historically impacted passenger experiences and overall service delivery.

On the sidelines of the event, director of public affairs and consumer protection at the NCAA, Mr. Michael Achimugu emphasised the importance of continuous stakeholder engagement through such summits, noting that they are essential for staying aligned with the evolving aviation landscape.

Najomo also highlighted the Cape Town Convention and the International Registry for Aircraft Equipment (IDERA) as significant developments that will encourage more planes and investments in Nigeria. He added that increasing the number of planes will help reduce flight disruptions, ultimately benefiting passengers and operators alike.

The DG reiterated that the NCAA’s mission is to ensure ease of doing business while maintaining security and safety standards, creating an environment where investors can thrive and passengers can enjoy world-class services.
