“Not everyone around you wants you to succeed” -Reminisce

In a recent interview, Reminisce has shed light on the controversial environment of fame and trust in the Nigerian music industry, emphasizing the importance of establishing boundaries.

His insights are an essential reminder for both emerging artists and fans alike. Reflecting on his journey, Reminisce described fame as a double-edged sword, akin to a drug that can cloud judgment.

“Fame is a drug that gets one high and clouds judgment,” he stated. “One of the first lessons I learned was that nobody is my friend.”

This realization has shaped his approach to relationships in an industry rife with competition and shifting loyalties.

“Many people may not like me,” he continued, “but if someone I’ve collaborated with and we’ve had issues, it’s likely because I made a decision and stood by it. At the end of the day, I’m the one who has to deal with the consequences.”

Reminisce’s early experiences in the industry opened his eyes to the reality that fame does not equate to friendship. As he rose to prominence, he became acutely aware of who to trust.

“When it comes to humans, they can easily turn on you if they feel disadvantaged, especially financially,” he explained. “I had a child before I even became famous, and that taught me that kindness doesn’t guarantee loyalty.”

With hard-won wisdom, he advises budding artists to be vigilant about their surroundings.

“We all want the same thing, so it’s unrealistic to think everyone is your friend,” he said. “When you’re at the top, it’s your responsibility to discern who truly supports you. Not everyone around you wants to see you succeed.”
