October 1 Protest: Ogun Court Limits Protesters To MKO Abiola Stadium, 3 Other Venues

A High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, has restricted members of the #FearlessInOctober protest to specific venues, including the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu, Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode, and Ansar-Ud-Deen Comprehensive High School in Ota.

The ruling was issued by Justice Tajudeen A. Okunsokan following an application by the Attorney-General of Ogun State in Suit No. AB/667/2024. Respondents in the case include Afolabi Adeboye, Ifemosu Michael, and Lekan Soneye (representing themselves and other members of the #FearlessInOctober protests), Bestman Okereafor (on behalf of the Progressive Students Movement), Francis Adeyanju (representing the National Association of Nigerian Students), and Thomas Kehinde (representing the National Association of Ogun Students).

Other respondents are Yinka Folarin (representing the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights), Nicholas Eko (on behalf of the Socialist Democratic Movement), Koyejo Morenikeji, unnamed individuals, and the Ogun State Commissioner of Police.

The court order mandates that protesters must not gather at any location in the state except for the designated venues. The court further directed the Ogun State Commissioner of Police to enforce the ruling, which will be in effect for seven days, in line with Order 39 of the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2014.

Scheduled for October 1 (Tuesday), the planned protest is a continuation of the End Bad Governance protest, which was held nationwide from August 1 to 10. At least 19 people were reported dead during the protest, while public infrastructures were destroyed in six states.
