Officers Dismissed Over Death Of Kwara Student Charged To Court

Three police officers dismissed over the death of a student at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Qoyum Ishola, have been charged in court.

The Kwara State Police Command disclosed this in a statement on Friday signed by its spokesperson, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.

The officers: Abiodun Kayode, James Emmanuel, and Oni Philip, according to the police are faced with charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

Recall that Ishola, 21-year-old student of the Department of Electrical Electronics of Kwara State Polytechnic was allegedly murdered by the police during a stop and search operation at the Fate area of Ilorin on September 4.

Following the tragic death, students of the polytechnic embarked on a protest at the headquarters of the state police command and the Government House demanding justice for the student.

The Kwara Police Command while updating the public on Friday said, the dismissed officers were charged to court on Wednesday and “have been remanded in prison custody pending further court proceedings.”

The command had vowed that it would prosecute the three police officers found guilty of allegedly killing Ishola in the court of competent jurisdiction.
