Abia State governor, Alex Otti

The Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has promised immediate employment to 15 of the outstanding athletes of the Abia State Sports Council, including a total sum of N72m to all athletes and coaches of the council.

The Governor who announced during a reception he organised to celebrate the State’s athletes who performed excellently across different competitions in his residence at Nvosi Isialangwa South local government, expressed satisfaction with the returns made so far.

The Governor equally donated a Coaster Bus to the Abia State Sports Council and a vehicle to the Abia State Director of Sports, Comr. Obioma George.

The Governor during the occasion announced that his government will also provide support for the former Super Eagles Head Coach, Christian Chukwu condemning the neglect of such “personalities” in our society.

Additionally, Governor Otti promised to review and rehabilitate the outdoor facilities at the Umuahia Township Stadium. Noting that the renovation will likely cover essential infrastructure such as tracks, fields, and other sports facilities.

The athletes have diligently represented Nigeria and Abia this year, winning multiple laurels and medals in Uganda, Paris Paralympics and National Youth Games Asaba, thus attracting the attention of sports lovers across the globe to the ongoing revitalisation and resurgence of sports in Abia State under Governor Otti administration.

Speaking at the event, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba Nwadinma the Honourable Commissioner of Sports and Youth Development eulogised the governor, remarking that the strides and achievements of the sporting side of his ministry are all results of his relentless effort in restoring Abia to its glory of yesteryears in sports.

He reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the ministry continues to make the state proud in sports and Youth Development.
