He revealed that the incident inspired his debut album’s title, “Oxlade From Africa.”

The experience made him realize the existence of African stigma and the harsh perceptions of Africans outside the continent.

“I was racially abused in Monaco, France. That’s what made me proud to be African,” Oxlade shared.

“In Africa, we’re seen as normal humans, but outside Africa, they view us as monkeys, strange beings.”

The History and International Relations graduate also expressed his concerns about the derogatory connotations associated with the names “Africa” and “Nigeria.”
