The Church of the Brethren (EYN), Moduganari in Maiduguri, Bornu State, on Sunday, lost a pastor during a child dedication.
Pastor Rev. Alaku Vincent was said to be in the midst of the church service when he suddenly slumped and lost consciousness.
According to reports monitored on social media, all efforts made to revive the pastor failed.
The District Secretary of the church, Timothy Hammajam, described the deceased in a Facebook post as “a visionary leader with focus.” He added, “KBC DCM 2003 graduating class will never miss your elderly and prophetic words. May God comfort EYN and your family.”
Church members and colleagues also took to social media to mourn the loss of their beloved pastor, as one of them, Prince Malikson Papaman shared a tribute on his Facebook handle.
He wrote; “Just a few hours ago, he stood confidently on the altar… passionately shepherding his flock.
“His powerful message still resonates in my mind, as he emphasized the importance of family unity in worship.
“Little did I know it would be his final sermon.”
Papaman described Vincent’s departure as leaving an “unfillable void.”
He concluded, “Rest in eternal peace, Rev. Vincent Alaku. Until we meet again.”
As of the time of filling this report, the cause of Pastor Vincent’s death had not been disclosed.
