Police confirm VDM will be arraigned in court this morning for alleged impersonation

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed it will be arraigning social critic, Very Dark Man in court this morning over alleged impersonation as it relates to his recent unauthorized use of a police uniform in a viral video.

A statement from the force shared on its X handle reads;

‘’IMPERSONATION: VDM TO APPEAR IN COURT TODAY, FCT COMMAND LEADING PROSECUTION

In response to recent developments, VDM, whose real name is Mr. Martins Otse, is set to appear in court today following allegations of impersonation related to the unauthorized use of Nigeria Police Force uniforms in a viral social media video. The FCT Police Command is actively handling the case, underscoring the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its symbols and preventing their misuse. Interested persons are encouraged to follow up on the proceedings as the case unfolds.''

Recall that last weekend, the social media personality released a video of himself wearing a police uniform and introducing himself as a “chief superintendent of police (CSP) of the Online Division”. He also expressed his commitment to sanitizing social media by exposing online oppressors and vendors.

The Nigeria Police Force later released a statement saying it had launched an investigation to determine the source of the police gear he used and the authority under which he acted.

On Wednesday, October 30. VDM released a video on his page saying he had just returned from the police station where he was interrogated based on the controversial footage. He emphasized that he didn’t intend to impersonate the police. He also offered his “unreserved apologies” to the law enforcement agency. VeryDarkMan advised the public to seek permission from law enforcement agencies before using “attire resembling their uniforms”.

On Thursday, he was detained by the police after carrying out a search of his apartment.
