Reps Clarifies Report On Summoning Wike, DSS DG, Others

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Ahmed Satomi, has clarified that the House of Representatives did not summon Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, or the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, over the rising crime rate in the FCT.

Naija News reports that this clarification follows a motion of urgent public importance moved on Tuesday by Ismail Dabo Haruna, addressing the disturbing increase in criminal activities, particularly by the group known as “One Chance” operators in Abuja.

The motion had called for an investigation by the House’s joint committees on FCT, Police, and National Intelligence into the issue.

Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Satomi emphasized that contrary to media reports, no summons had been issued to Wike or Ajayi.

“There is a misconception regarding the motion raised yesterday (Tuesday) by Dabo Haruna, which was about the murder of his legislative aide, Miss Nimah Sulaiman, and the pressing need to tackle the menace of ‘One Chance’ criminals in the FCT,” Satomi stated.

He explained that while the motion was adopted and referred to the relevant committees for further action, there was no direct summons to any officials.

Instead, Satomi said the committees were tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and coordinating with key stakeholders, including the FCT Minister, the FCT Commissioner of Police, and the DSS Director General, to bring those responsible for the crimes to justice.

Satomi also assured that the joint committee is preparing to begin its legislative duties, which will include working with security agencies to address the criminal activities and bring the killers of Nimah Sulaiman to justice.

He praised the new DSS Director General, describing him as a seasoned intelligence professional expected to play a crucial role in combating crime in Abuja.

Nimah Sulaiman, a legislative aide, was abducted by armed men on October 17, 2024, near Bannex Junction, Abuja, while on her way to Jahi District. Despite her family paying the ransom, she was tragically murdered by her kidnappers.
