The Rivers State Government has announced a significant increase in the minimum wage for civil servants, with approval of N85,000, effective immediately
George Nwaeke, Head of Service, made the announcement after a meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, labour leaders, and senior government officials.
Labour leaders praised the governor’s decision, with Chukwu Emecheta, Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, expressing gratitude for meeting workers’ expectations.
Alex Agwanwor, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, noted that the new minimum wage will alleviate economic hardships faced by workers.
This development follows the federal government’s recent implementation of a N70,000 minimum wage for federal civil servants.
