Flamingos coach, Bankole Olowookere expressed his satisfaction after his team’s winning start at the U-I7 Women’s World Cup, emphasizing the importance of securing the first three points.

Speaking in an interview with NFF TV he said “We planned to win our first match because the first match at the World Cup is very important. We had to make it count by getting the maximum 3 points, and we scored more. This is okay for the girls,” Olowookere stated.

Looking ahead, he exuded confidence in his players: “I have so much confidence in my girls. I saw them when they came in their numbers before we selected the ones to represent us in the World Cup.

We believe that those we selected are good enough as Ambassadors of Nigeria. My confidence is 100% in them anytime any day because I know what they are made of. I know their quality. These are future superstars for Nigeria.”

Regarding the goal conceded in their opener, Olowookere played down concerns, calling it part of the developmental journey: “Mistakes are inevitable. They are bound to make mistakes, which we are working on. The most important thing is to score more goals, and that’s what we did.”

On their upcoming match against Ecuador, the coach urged Nigerians to continue their support: “We are not going to let them down… All we need are prayers and we will keep making them proud.”

The Flamingos next match against Ecuador is on Saturday, 19th October by 9 pm Nigerian Time.
