Toni Kroos rules out coaching role, open to sporting director position

Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos has confirmed that he has no interest in pursuing a managerial role after his retirement.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who has enjoyed a glittering career with both Real Madrid and the German national team, recently explained his reasoning in an interview with The Athletic.

“No, I’m not going to be a coach,” Kroos said, even dismissing the idea of joining Carlo Ancelotti’s staff.

He emphasized that his decision is largely driven by the extensive travel and time away from home that coaching demands.

“It’s not the 90 minutes on the pitch. I could play until I don’t know when if that was all it involved,” Kroos added.

While coaching is off the table, Kroos is leaving the door open to a potential role as a sporting director.

He acknowledged that the role offers more flexibility and less travel, saying, “Maybe as a sporting director, you’re a bit freer… but it’s impossible to be a coach.”
