#FearlessOctober Protest: Police invites organisers of #FearlessOctober Protest

The Nigerian Police Force has called organisers and supporters of the upcoming protest for a meeting ahead of the protest scheduled for October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, organised a town hall meeting at the Command’s headquarters in Ikeja with the supposed organisers of the #FearlessOctober protest.

Nigerians have begun preparations again to come out on the streets and alert the government about their hardships and its anti-people policies. The protest is set to happen on Independence Day as Nigeria clocks 64.

Four corrupt policemen being questioned for extorting ₦1m from NYSC members

Four Nigerian police officers were exposed to have extorted ₦1 million from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on September 26.

The aggrieved posted the ordeal on X (formerly Twitter), tagging Ben Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, to the issue with video recordings to prove his statements.

According to the accusation, three Corps members were stopped around Surulere Express and searched by the four police officers who alleged that they had no physical copy of a driver’s license. They were taken to an Area C Police Station, where they were threatened with guns and forced to transfer the sum of ₦1 million.

Lagos and Ogun State warn residents ahead of Oyan Dam release date

The Lagos and Ogun State Governments have warned residents living in the area of the Oyan Dam as it (the area) is liable to be flooded when water from the Oyan Dam in Ogun State is released upon its scheduled date.

Excess water from the dam will be released, as is the dam’s annual management process, to maintain a balanced water level during rainy seasons.

In 2023, residents of Isheri Riverview Estate complained about being caught in the flood due to a water surge caused by the release of excess water in the dam. To avoid a similar situation, the two state governments have advised caution ahead of the release date.

Minister of Interior blames the increase in passport fee on Forex

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, gave a reason for the 45% increase in international passports, claiming that it was due to the unstable foreign exchange and the naira devaluation.

The Minister stated that the US dollar exchange rate drove the increase to naira and that there has been no increase for Nigerians overseas.

In August, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) announced an increase in fees for the creation of an International passport; the five-year 32-page booklet, formerly ₦35,000, was increased to ₦50,000, and the 10-year 64-page booklet, formerly ₦70,000, was increased to ₦100,000.

Imo State residents threaten to come out in refusal of the Saturday 21 election results

Residents of Imo State have claimed there was no such thing as a local government election in the state so how is there a winner?

The residents have threatened to come out and protest as they believe that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had committed fraud and announced a winner without the people’s vote.

According to reports, people claimed they waited hours at their polling unit in Ahiazu, Ehime Mbano and other LGAs, but the INEC officials never came.
