A good number of Nigerian footballers abroad stood up for their respective clubs by scoring or providing assists to help their sides earn points last weekend.

Unlike previous weekends, last weekend saw the usual Nigerian footballers known for scoring goals like Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, and Samuel Chukwueze find the back of the net for their respective clubs.

Sunday, October 20

Tolu Arokodare (Genk 3-2 Sint-Truiden)

Tolu Arokodare showcased his talent for Genk, contributing significantly to their 3-2 victory against Sint-Truiden in a First Division A match at Cegeka Arena. Opening the scoring in the 18th minute with an assist from Bonsu Baah, he also set up El Ouahdi for the third goal just before halftime. Arokodare’s impressive performance brought his goal tally to seven, positioning him as the leading scorer in the First Division A.

Moses Simon (Nantes 1-1 Nice)

Moses Simon maintained his excellent form for Nantes, providing a crucial assist in their 1-1 draw against OGC Nice in French Ligue 1. His assist for Abline’s goal gave Nantes a 1-0 lead in the 67th minute, though they ultimately settled for a draw following Nice’s equalizer. Simon, now 29, has become a key player for his team, appearing in all seven Ligue 1 matches so far this season, with two goals and two assists to his name.

Victor Osimhen made a triumphant return from injury, scoring a stunning overhead kick for Galatasaray in their 3-0 win against Antalyaspor. Coming off the bench, Osimhen’s remarkable skill has solidified his reputation as a key player, with three goals and four assists in just five matches since his loan move from Napoli.

In the Premier League, Joe Aribo found the net for Southampton after a six-month break. However, his effort wasn’t enough to secure a win against Leicester City, who staged a remarkable comeback.

In Italy, Samuel Chukwueze broke an eight-game goal drought, scoring the decisive goal in AC Milan’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Udinese. His performance not only secured vital points for the team but also marked a significant step in his season.

In the German Bundesliga, Victor Boniface had a mixed game as he missed a penalty and also scored a late-minute match-winner for Bayer Leverkusen against Eintracht Frankfurt at the BayArena.

Thanks to Boniface, who has scored eight goals in nine Bundesliga games so far this season, coach Xabi Alonso’s side managed to secure a 2-1 win in front of jubilant home fans.

In Belgium, Raphael Onyedika helped his club to secure a 2-1 win thanks to an assist he provided for the opening goal. So far this season, the 23-year-old midfielder has provided two assists for the Jupiler Pro League side in all competitions.
