Rangers and Nigeria central defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun, has called on the governing body of football in Africa, CAF, to intervene in Libya’s maltreatment of Nigerian footballers, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 36-year-old who has 46 Super Eagles caps under his belt has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to take stringent action against Libyan authorities for leaving the Super Eagles players and officials stranded in their airport.
The Nigerian team were en route to Benghazi but before their plane was diverted to another destination, which wasn’t fit for an airplane as per William Troost-Ekong.
The Nigerian team have been at The Al Abaq Airport for over 13 hours without food and internet. Furthermore, they’d need at least two hours on the road to get to their destination where they’ll be able to rest and prepare for their clash on Tuesday.
Balogun, reacting to the chaos caused by the Libyan authorities, prompted CAF to mete out immediate punishment for their treatment of the Nigerian players and staff, urging them to be held accountable for such an unacceptable feat.
“Hey @CAF_Online – surely you’re going to investigate thoroughly and take action, right? Whoever is responsible for this needs to be held accountable. This is unacceptable,” the former Brighton and Hove Albion man wrote on his official X page.

Balogun’s one-time partner in the heart of the Nigerian defence, William Troost-Ekong, has revealed the Super Eagles will choose to boycott the game due to security reasons.
