We Didn’t Call For Ex-Gov Bello’s Arrest – CJP

The Center for Justice and Peace, (CJP) has said it never called for the arrest of former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

The group said a statement credited to them that the group called for the arrest of Bello was false and maliciously concocted and circulated by politicians.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, the Director General of the Center, Dr. Stephen Okparaibe, said some desperate politicians impersonated the group by issuing statements on its behalf, describing them as paid agents that are bent on causing confusion.

He said the attempts by the individual to undermine the group’s “integrity and independence will not be tolerated.”

He stated that the purported statement contradicts the core values of the group, saying CJP would not call for the arrest of someone who had voluntarily surrendered himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

“We are shocked that desperate politicians would sponsor criminals to impersonate our organisation and release malicious statements.

“This blatant attempt to undermine our integrity and independence will not be tolerated.”

He argued that, “If the EFCC, which declared Mr. Bello wanted, had him for over four hours and refused to arrest and prosecute him, how could we?”
