For probably the 27th time, we are witnessing a Davido and Wizkid back and forth on X. It felt like music lovers were waiting for October 1st more for the rumored releases of both artists than the Independence Day itself. Wiz announced new music for the 1st of October and Davido then said he’d drop on the same day to compete and show who’s bigger and better. Fans waited, I waited. Things got more interesting when both artists dropped snippets of their next releases and fans started to give opinions and criticism.

Davido posted a snippet on his X handle and captioned it “First single of the year loading” and his fans took it upon themselves to remind Wizkid that he was supposed to drop on October 1st.  Davido’s Creative Director BlackTycoone then tweeted on his X account early yesterday “Tell your Daddy to drop na” and the drama began to unfold. FC began to respond aggressively, and 30BG did same.

WIzkid called out by davido's Tycoone.

Wiz would be Wiz, and came online to respond to the tweet from Davido’s camp with a post captioned “Beg me! Just like…” It doesn’t take much to know that the statement was a response to Tycoone asking him to drop if he’s confident and the ‘Beg Me’ was a reference to the video of Davido crying and begging a while ago. Wiz then went on a roll, insulting, making mockery of and dissing Davido in a series of tweets always ended with the bird emoji and a big red heart.  He rounded it all up by calling Davido whack, talentless, and gave him a new name, Frogido.

The entire childish banter from both artists is as understandable as it is useless. They’re rivals, they will always be on opposite sides of the coin. They both have opinions, narratives and beliefs of the other person and camp that are rooted in their hearts so no matter how many times they settle in front of the lenses of the media, they are never really at peace with each other.

Also, you can not preach More Love Less Ego and show less love, and way more ego that you used to for a while. It’s almost hypocritic. It’s more distasteful than fun. It feels like a 15 year old beef is being forced to be alive. It feels like room was always kept for the beef to never fully die, like the first two lines of Burna’s No Fit Vex. It shows the humanity of special beings. You’re human after all, filled with pettiness and ego and malice and all the other tablets of the drug of resentment.

On the other hand, It’s always members of Davido’s team taking bad about Wizkid or his music. You’d never see same from direct members of Wiz’s team, or his recognized fan pages, but it is the opposite on the other side of the table. It’s almost like Davido speaks through his team members, and Wiz speaks for himself.

Also, fans and fanatics, please. It’s okay when we tell Nicki Minaj to call out Cardi B and Megan, or when we tell Metro Boomin to call out Drake and leak secrets, we call J Cole weak for pulling out of the beef with Kendrick and Drake, but we feel this sudden urge to call for maturity where Davido and Wizkid are involved. Please. Stop this selective call for maturity. Promote immaturity today, so we can get this over with.

As I write to you, Wiz is at it again. He’s basically telling Davido to fuck around with the four foot nigga and find out while revealing that most of the deals “ u niggas” have on their table  now are deals that were rejected by him. Remember that Wiz is associated with UBA and Puma, but Davido recently did business with both. Interesting.

Personally, I’m tired. People are waiting for music from the both of you and you’re giving them beef. Beef you’ve given them your entire career. There’s a big lack of awareness in their actions. Either that, or a massive disconnect from the people with all focus on ego and pride. Either that, or you just want to spoil the community you’ve built for Afrobeats. Whatever it is, wrap it up please. Drop music. You can hate each other and drop amazing music. Ask Kendrick and Drake.
