Women are running the entertainment industry – Bovi

Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has boldly asserted that women not only play a significant role in the entertainment industry but largely control it. Speaking on TVC’s Your View, Bovi engaged in a lively discussion about the evolving landscape of Nigerian entertainment and the strides women have made in the sector.

During the conversation, Bovi challenged the notion that women are still fighting for equality. “Women need to understand that in areas where they are fighting for equality, sometimes they may have conquered,” he explained. “Because they are used to fighting, they don’t know that they’ve won.”

Bovi highlighted the impact women have had on the industry over the past decade, referencing trailblazers like Funke Akindele and Mo Abudu, both of whom have achieved remarkable box office success. “The biggest box office hit is a woman, Funke Akindele. The second biggest is also a woman, Mo Abudu,” he noted, emphasizing their roles as leading producers. He also mentioned influential figures like Bolanle Austin-Peters, Jade Osiberu, and Chioma Ode, pointing out that many of the most significant contributions to the industry come from women.

Listing other prominent names such as Omoni Oboli, Uche Jombo, and Genevieve Nnaji, Bovi reiterated his stance: “Women are running the entertainment industry.” He expressed concern for younger women in the industry, urging them to recognize their power. “When I see young girls complaining about male producers demanding sex for roles, I’m like, ‘Yes, it’s true. But who have you cried to? Who have you spoken to? You own the industry.’”
