10Ten’s quest to uncover Africa’s next music stars

Chocolate City’s producer and Head of A&R, Osagie Onobun, popularly known as 10Ten, has explained the reason behind his first-ever A&R tour.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, he stated that the tour aimed to bridge the gap between music executives and up-and-coming artistes, who often lack the resources or reach to connect with key industry figures.

He said, “The tour was by design, been an interesting experience, and just like we thought we would, we have come to learn the realities of talented young creatives with limited resources, access and information.

“The dynamics of the industry at the moment leaves a void that can only be filled by a structured system. We are bridging a crucial gap and sowing important seeds. I can’t wait for what the future holds.

“As is obvious, the results of the tour will not be evident immediately, but posterity will thank us for these steps taken in the right direction.”

10Ten, who has worked rapper, Blaqbonez, on the latter’s albums— ‘Sex Over Love’, ‘Young Preacher’ and ‘Emeka Must Shine’, recently, he released a single titled, ‘Problem Choke’, featuring Qing Madi. According to him, it is a teaser for his forthcoming ‘Project 1823’.

He also stated that beyond his production and songwriting talents, he is passionate about nurturing African music, both creatively and administratively.

He added, “I believe I have a keen eye for identifying and developing talent, and I am constantly working to push African music to new heights. This tour marked a significant step in realising that vision.”
