Actress Binta Ayo Mogaji advises women over 35 to consider motherhood outside marriage

Veteran Nigerian actress Binta Ayo Mogaji has advised women over the age of 35 to consider having children outside of marriage if they desire motherhood.

In a recent interview with Oyinmomo TV, the 60-year-old actress shared her views on marriage, motherhood, and societal pressures, reflecting on her own experience of having her first child at the age of 40.

Mogaji encouraged single women to prioritize motherhood over societal norms, suggesting that they shouldn’t wait for marriage to have children. She emphasized that women should embrace the opportunity to have children with a partner, even if that partner is not ready for marriage or refuses to take responsibility for the child.

“What I’m saying is, once you are 35 or older and you don’t have a husband, but there is someone in your life who is not ready for marriage but wants a child, have a child with him, even if he won’t accept responsibility for the child,” Mogaji advised.

She pointed out the challenges women face as they age, including societal judgment and pressure to conform to traditional roles within marriage. Mogaji added that women who delay motherhood might find themselves missing out on important life milestones, like becoming a grandmother, if they continue to wait for marriage.

Her advice extended to those unable to find a partner: “If you cannot find a man to impregnate you, then consider adoption.”

Mogaji’s comments have sparked discussions about societal expectations of women and the evolving roles of motherhood in today’s world.
