Nigeria secured a 2-0 win over Algeria at the Remo Stars Stadium, in the first leg of their double header friendly, on Saturday.
Algeria got he game off underway, but it was Nigeria who came close to scoring in the 12th minute, when Folashade Ijamilusi’s long-range effort from the edge of the box was saved by the goalkeeper.
However, it would belong before the game’s first goal would be recorded and it came in the 24th minute, when Nigeria’s captain Rasheedat Ajibade broke the deadlock with a precise finis
The Falcons almost extended their lead in the 37th minute, but the attempt narrowly missed.
Ajibade, who confirmed she was nursing a dislocated shoulder, defied the pain and was again at the end of another good chance (45+2′) to double Nigeria’s lead.
A less eventful second half would see the game end 2-0, and a winning start for interim coach Justin Madugu.
Madugu will look to make it two out of two, when the teams meet against on Tuesday, October 29, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
