Patrice Motsepe, the current president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has confirmed his decision to seek re-election as the head of African football’s governing body in the upcoming 2025 elections.
This decision comes in response to requests from numerous stakeholders across African football, including Member Association Presidents and Zonal Union Presidents, who have urged Motsepe to continue his leadership.
CAF announced that the South African businessman and football administrator will officially stand as a candidate in the CAF Presidential Elections scheduled for March 2025.
Motsepe first assumed the role of CAF President on March 12, 2021, during the 43rd CAF General Assembly in Rabat, Morocco, becoming the seventh individual to hold this position.
He succeeded Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar.

In addition to his CAF role, Motsepe is a prominent businessman and one of Africa’s wealthiest individuals, with an estimated net worth of $2.9 billion, according to Forbes.
He also owns Mamelodi Sundowns, the South African club that won the CAF Champions League in 2016.
