Court grants N10M bail each to 72 #EndBadGovernance protesters

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail of N10 million each to 72 defendants accused of participating in the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests

Judge Obiora Egwuatu, who presided over the case, required each defendant to provide two sureties for the bail amount.

According to Vanguard, one surety must be a civil servant of grade level 15 or above, with a verifiable address within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other must be a parent of the defendant.

The court initially scheduled the arraignment for 76 defendants, many of whom are minors. During the proceedings, several children appeared visibly ill and malnourished as they were called to enter their pleas.

Due to limited space, some minors were forced to stand outside the designated area, and four collapsed, requiring immediate medical attention. This disruption prompted the judge to temporarily adjourn proceedings until order was restored.

When the session resumed, the prosecution requested that the names of the four affected minors be withdrawn from the charges, according to TheCable. The remaining defendants were then arraigned and entered pleas of not guilty.

The 76 individuals, detained in Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano, face charges including treason.
