What could have been a tragic incident for the Okojies was averted as security personnel foiled an assassination attempt by armed men suspected to be political thugs of Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson's husband, Prince Odi Okojie.

The report was made public by Okojie’s media aide, Michael Ihaza on Friday, September 20, revealing that Prince Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing the Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State was reportedly attacked at his residence by gunmen in a Lexus GX 470 carrying a Rivers State vehicle registration number – PHC 253 FF.

According to the statement, the assassination attempt was unsuccessful thanks to the intervention of security personnel attached to the lawmaker.

Two of the thugs fled leaving behind a driver and another who were being interrogated

“The suspects have so far made a confessional statement stating that they were sent on the mission by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Esan North East Local Government Area,” PUNCH reports.

As of this report, Mercy Johnson and her husband have yet to share any online posts about the incident.
