England’s unbeaten run under interim boss Lee Carsley came to an end as Vangelis Pavlidis’ 94th-minute winner secured a 2-1 victory for Greece
Despite naming an attacking lineup, England struggled to maintain control, particularly in midfield.
Greece dominated the first half, with Levi Colwill’s goal-line clearance and an offside flag denying them an opener. England’s sole chance fell to Cole Palmer, who blasted over from close range.
After the break, Greece took a deserved lead through Pavlidis, who evaded three England players to score. Giorgos Masouras and Pavlidis had additional goals ruled out for offside.
Jude Bellingham equalized in the 87th minute with a powerful strike, but Pavlidis struck again in stoppage time, capitalizing on England’s failure to clear the ball.
The loss leaves Greece three points clear atop the Nations League standings, while England faces an uphill battle for promotion to the top tier.
