The Federal Government has announced Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day anniversary

Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on behalf of the government.

In a statement issued by Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad, praising their resilience and hard work.

He acknowledged the sacrifices of Nigerian men and women, assuring that their efforts will not be in vain.

Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of unity in building a better Nigeria, reflecting on the labor of past heroes and inspiring future generations. He urged citizens to remain steadfast in nation-building.

“Nigeria’s independence is a testament to our collective strength,” Tunji-Ojo said. “Let us unite to build a brighter future.”

October 1 marks Nigeria’s freedom from British rule in 1960. The day is celebrated with parades, cultural events, and speeches across the country.

The government encourages all Nigerians to participate in the celebrations, promoting unity, patriotism, and national pride.
