President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the scrap of the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of Niger Delta to begin the much-awaited cabinet reshuffling to reduce cost and improve efficiency

The decision taken at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting also saw the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

Equally, the creation of a new Ministry of Regional Development has been approved to oversee the activities of the newly created zonal development commissions while the National Sports Commission will take over the activities of the Ministry of Sport.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a post on his official X handle on Wednesday.

According to him, “There will now be a Ministry of Regional Development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, Northwest Development Commission, Southwest Development Commission, and the Northeast Development Commission”.

He also stated that the National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports henceforth.

During the FEC meeting, the president also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
