Nigeria’s U-20 men’s team, the Flying Eagles, have intensified their final preparations for the 2024 WAFU B U-20 Championship with their training camp at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The team, led by coach Aliyu Zubairu, arrived in Ikenne earlier this week to sharpen their skills ahead of the tournament, which kicks off in Togo on October 17, 2024.

The morning training session on Tuesday lasted for two hours, focusing mainly on recovery drills after the intense preparations the squad had undergone in Abuja.

Coach Zubairu’s staff prioritized ensuring players are physically ready and injury-free as they approach the final stretch of their build-up. The team is scheduled to return to the pitch for an evening session later at 4 p.m., where more tactical aspects will be addressed.

Having relocated from Abuja to Ikenne, this move provides the squad with the necessary facilities and a more focused environment for the week leading up to their departure for Lome.

The technical crew has the full squad available, marking a pivotal point as the players vie for starting positions for their upcoming group matches against Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.

The WAFU U-20 Championship serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, which itself is a pathway to the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup. With high stakes and strong opponents in Group B, the Flying Eagles are working diligently to defend their WAFU title.

Sharif Abdallah, the team’s media officer, reported that the squad is in high spirits, and the coaching staff is confident that the camp in Ikenne will solidify their preparations as they aim for another successful outing in the sub-regional competition.
