Globacom, a Nigerian multinational telecommunications company has appointed Ahmad Farroukh as its new Chief Executive Officer.

In his new role, Farroukh is expected to lead an overhaul of the telco company.

Prior to his new appointment, he was the Group CEO of Smile Communications Nigeria Limited where he was appointed by the major shareholders to help in the turnaround and restructuring of the business.

Farroukh’s appointment is part of the telco’s effort to align with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)’s move to strengthen corporate governance in the telecoms industry.

Farroukh is an accomplished executive with over 30+ years’ multi-cultural experience in the N. America & EMEA region with a proven ability to aggressively build, develop and strengthen businesses in the TMT (Technology, Media &, Telecom) industry from emerging markets.

Possessing excellent communication skills and able to establish sustainable and profitable relationships with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders alike. Nominated and serve on many Boards Committees including Investment committees, Remuneration, Audit, Governance, Procurement, Strategy, and Restructuring.

He has an entrepreneurial leadership style with highly effective planning, organizational and commercial skills as well as a solution-orientated approach to problem solving with a demonstrated record at recruiting, leading & mentoring multiple-disciplinary teams to achieve the organization goals.

He started his Career in 1982 as a Supervisor in Oger International, he then moved to Bankmed as Group Chief Account. He also served as Audit Senior at KPMG US, before he ported to Deloitte as Audit Supervisor.

In 1999, he was managing director of MTN Ghana and regional director for West Africa under Investcom, an MTN subsidiary. He then served as CEO of MTN Nigeria from 2006 to 2010 and was appointed CEO of MTN South Africa in 2014.

In 2015, he became CEO of Mobily, Saudi Arabia’s second-largest telecom operator, where he served until 2017. He then joined Smile Communications Nigeria Limited in 2019 as Group CEO until his Globacom appointment.

Farroukh has a Master’s in Business Administration and Accounting from the Lebanese American University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) from New York, USA.
