Ckay unveils new category of Afrobeat.

There has been a thick trending debate among musicians, on the matter of Afrobeat recently.

Earlier in the year, Wizkid stated that he didn’t want to be categorized as an Afrobeat artist, and so did high life singer Flavour.

The fact that Wizkid distanced himself from the Afrobeat category didn’t sit well with a lot of netizens, as his statement earned him a lot of backlash online.

Also recall that shortly after the just concluded VMA Awards, OAP Do2dtun criticized South African singer Tyla for accepting the award for Best Afrobeat artist, since she previously categorized herself as an Amapiano singer.

Do2dtun said that Tyla should’ve returned the award, citing that she was undeserving of the award.

He went on to talk about how Nigerian artists had sold their birthrights for money, and allowed foreign singers to take over the Afrobeat scene.
