The President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has lauded the resilience and determination of Nigeria’s U20 team, the Flying Eagles, as they surged into the final of the WAFU B U20 Championship.

This impressive achievement also secured Nigeria a place in the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.

“I commend the fighting spirit of the Flying Eagles in reaching the final of the WAFU B U20 Championship and, in the process, winning a slot at the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations,” said Gusau, who has closely followed the team’s journey.

“I watched their first match against Burkina Faso, which they lost 0-1, but the team has continued to improve with every match since then.”

On Sunday, the Flying Eagles overcame an early setback to clinch a thrilling 3-1 victory over Niger Republic’s Junior Mena. After conceding a goal in the ninth minute at Stade Kegue in Lome, the team rallied, displaying a determined response that turned the match around. Clinton Jephta equalized with a spectacular long-range strike in the 35th minute, setting off a series of moves that saw the Flying Eagles seize control.

The team’s discipline was evident in their play, especially with goalkeeper Ifeanyi Harcourt’s crucial saves that maintained their lead. Jephta’s second goal early in the second half gave Nigeria the advantage, and Olalekan Alonge’s goal in added time sealed the victory.

Expressing confidence ahead of Wednesday’s final against Ghana, Gusau added, “The NFF is delighted with their performance. We believe they have what it takes to go all the way and successfully defend their title against the Ghanaians.”

With his words of encouragement, Gusau conveyed the pride of the entire nation. As Nigeria prepares for this decisive showdown, his message to the Flying Eagles remains clear: keep fighting, and bring home the victory.
