“I Generate 15% of Nigeria’s Power Supply” – Davido’s Father, Deji Adeleke Claims

Deji Adeleke, a prominent businessman and father of Nigerian musician Davido, recently stated that his company contributes significantly to Nigeria’s power supply, generating an estimated 15% of the nation’s electricity.

He declared this at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church’s General Conference Annual Council 2024, held on October 15th.

“I’m in the electricity business; I own power plants. I generate about 15 per cent of Nigeria’s electricity,” Adeleke disclosed, emphasising his investment in sustainable energy infrastructure.

“I have Chinese engineering companies that work for me. I am building the biggest thermal power plant in Nigeria to be launched in January 2025. It’s a 1250MW power plant,” he added, underlining his commitment to bolstering Nigeria’s energy sector.

This new 1250MW thermal plant is set to become the largest of its kind in Nigeria, aiming to address persistent power shortages and improve reliability for millions of Nigerians.

The entrepreneur’s statement reflects his extensive ventures into the electricity sector, an area where his company has claimed to have made substantial contributions.

Davido has previously acknowledged his family’s influence in Nigeria’s energy landscape.

In April, speaking on the American podcast Business Untitled, the artist claimed that his family owns four power plants, which play a vital role in the country’s energy supply.

With this ambitious energy project set for completion in early 2025, Adeleke’s venture could mark a significant shift in Nigeria’s power generation capacity.
