Nigerian singer Ckay has confidently stated that many of the vibes and sounds popular among today’s Afrobeat artists were pioneered by him.

The “Love Nwantiti” crooner made the daring statement in a recent post on his X page.

He boasted about being the first, recalling when he was laughed at for introducing emo afrobeat that eventually became a trend on the video-sharing platform, TikTok all day.

Ckay pointed out that many Afrobeat artists are now following suit, rebranding the style and making millions from it.

His words: “ckay IS the first. i pioneered many vibes afrobeat artists thrive off today…iykyk. y’all laughed when i came up with emo afrobeat and was on tiktok all day but many are now doing the same thing, calling it ridiculous names (& making $$). you’re welcome sha 😎.”
