The Confederation of African Football (CAF) says there is no truth in reports that a three man shortlist for the award of the African Player of the year has been made known , OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

On loan Napoli striker Victor Osimhen of Nigeria is the current holder of the award , but he is not expected the retain the crown he won last year after a not too impressive season for Napoli and also the Super Eagles at the AFCON.

His international teammate Ademola Lookman who was top scorer for Nigeria at the AFCON, and also fired a hattrick in the final of the Europa League for Atalanta in their 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen is the hot favorite for the title.

Reports of a three man list of Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface and Brahim Diaz for the award has gone viral in the past days , but a member of the CAF media committee has dismissed the report as false.

” Like everyone else we (CAF) saw it on the internet. It didn’t come from CAF so it should be dismissed. All announcements for the previous editions has been handled by our media team and nothing has changed in that regards”, he said in an exclusive chat with OwnGoalNigeria.com.
