Lagos lawmaker asks youth to embrace agric

The representative of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Sabur Akanbi-Oluwa, has encouraged youths to participate in agriculture to boost food security.

He said this when he hosted the ninth edition of the Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting during the week.

The event, themed, “Enabling Food Security for a Sustainable Future: Youth Participation and Home-Grown Farming” was held simultaneously across all 40 constituencies in Lagos.

In his address, Akanbi-Oluwa, speaking on behalf of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr Mudashiru Obasa, highlighted the importance of youth involvement in agriculture to combat food insecurity.

“We must transform Lagos into a producing state within the agricultural value chain,” he said, citing the Ikorodu Fish Farm Estate, AGRIC-YES programme, and Eko Farmers Market as significant initiatives aimed at boosting local food production.

The lawmaker also urged residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun to adopt home-grown farming practices to address the rising costs of food, emphasising the importance of sustainable agricultural methods.

He noted that the youth hold a critical role in driving this transformation toward a more resilient and food-secure future.
