Bayelsa Queens coach, Ogbonda Whyte has commended the decision of Super Falcons’ interim coach, Justin Madugu to include 19 home-based players in the squad ahead of their upcoming match against Algeria.
Whyte sees this as a clear reflection of the hard work being put in by both the players and the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL).

Speaking with Brila.net, Whyte highlighted that only a coach with local knowledge could have made such a decision, criticizing foreign coaches for neglecting homegrown talents.
“With the new event now, with new trends in the Super Falcons, that is why we’ve been glamouring for indigenous coach. Because it’s indigenous coach that can be able to do what Coach Madugu is doing now. The idea of bringing in more of the home base into the Super Falcons.”

He further noted that this move will boost the NWFL and encourage Nigerian players to remain in the country rather than seeking opportunities in neighboring African nations.
“I think it will go a long way to improve our NWFL and to ensure that most of our players don’t go to other neighboring African countries.”
