Operatives of Bauchi State Police Command have arrested 21-year-old Dauda Saidu for trespassing and stealing metal rods from graves in a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area of the state.

According to a statement signed by Superintendent of Police, Ahmed Wakili, on Sunday, Saidu was apprehended on Friday after damaging several graves and removing iron rods for the purpose of selling them.

Upon interrogation, Saidu confessed to the crimes, admitting he had stolen multiple iron rods and sold them to scrap metal buyers in separate transactions.

The sales reportedly netted him amounts of N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500.

Saidu revealed that he used the proceeds to purchase an undisclosed quantity of marijuana (Indian hemp) and food items for personal consumption.

The statement reads in part, “Following interrogation, Dauda Saidu confessed to the offences, admitting to stealing multiple iron rods and selling them to scrap metal buyers in separate transactions, amounting to N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500, respectively.

“Dauda Saidu also disclosed that the proceeds were used to purchase an undisclosed quantity of Indian hemp and food items for personal consumption.

“CP Auwal Musa Muhammad has instructed that Dauda Saidu be prosecuted following the conclusion of the investigation.

“Additionally, he emphasised the importance of parental supervision and urged parents and guardians to be vigilant in monitoring their children and wards.”
