Crude Oil Thieves arrested by the Nigerian Navy in Lagos. Crude Oil Thieves arrested by the Nigerian Navy in Lagos.

The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base LEKKI has arrested five suspects in connection with stolen crude oil. The operatives intercepted a wooden boat around La Campagne Tropicana Beach area in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos State.

The Navy on Monday revealed via its social media handles that the boat was conveying a large quantity of stolen Crude Oil.

Preliminary investigation, according to the Navy, showed that the product was conveyed from the Igbokoda axis in Ondo State to beach land around La Campagne Tropicana Beach, to be loaded on trucks.

The suspects, the Navy noted, are currently in custody for further investigations.

The development comes a day after personnel of Naval Outpost (NOP) KOLUAMA II discovered and deactivated an illegal refining site with dug-out pits and refining ovens laden with an unspecified amount of stolen crude oil.

The site was located in a suspected militant camp around Igbematoro, Souther-Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State.

The Maritime officers added that personnel of NOP KOLUAMA II were currently on the trail of the occupants.
