Niger State modernizes Hajj fare Payment for 2025 pilgrimage

The Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board in north-central Nigeria has taken a bold step toward modernizing the payment process for Hajj fares in preparation for the 2025 pilgrimage.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Sheikh Muhammad Awwal Aliyu, stated this during a meeting with board members and Area Pilgrims Welfare Officers (APWOs) to discuss preparations for the upcoming pilgrimage.

Aliyu emphasized that the new payment system aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the collection of Hajj fares, while also improving the welfare of the state’s pilgrims.

He said, “The implementation of the system will eliminate inconsistencies and ensure that all transactions are traceable, marking a shift from the traditional bank draft system, which has become obsolete and caused delays in the operations.”

Sheikh Aliyu added that APWOs, desk officers, and the Board’s ICT officers will receive adequate training to equip them with the necessary skills for the job.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of the 2024 Hajj operations, highlighting advancements and lessons learned from the previous year’s pilgrimage.

The new initiative is expected to significantly reduce potential fraud, fostering a more trustworthy system for all parties involved.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the Board, Sheikh Abubakar Muhammad Beji, expressed confidence that the reforms will lead to a more organized and efficient pilgrimage, enhancing the spiritual journey for all pilgrims from Niger State.

Meanwhile, the 2025 Hajj fare will be announced in due course to ensure prompt and timely payment from intending pilgrims.
