NiMet’ll Deliver Meteorological Service, Anosike Assures NAIA Stakeholders

The director-general of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike has assured stakeholders of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport of the agency’s dedication to providing high-quality meteorological services tailored to the needs of the aviation sector.

Anosike gave the assurance during the Quality Management System (QMS) meeting on October 21, 2024, at the Hajj Centre of the domestic airport private wing. The meeting attracted representatives from key agencies, including NiMet, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigerian Safety and Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) and Green Africa Airlines.

Anosike, represented by his special assistant, Mr. Asaniyan Taiwo highlighted NiMet’s ongoing modernisation efforts, focusing on upgrading infrastructure and investing in advanced technology for improved weather observation and forecasting. He also emphasised the agency’s commitment to staff development through continuous training.

“For enhanced service delivery, NiMet has signed memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with both local and international partners to ensure our services remain resilient and customer-focused, ensuring the sustainability of the aviation sector and air safety in Nigeria,” said Anosike.

Head of the QMS at NiMet, Usman Abdulrahman outlined key discussion points, including the importance of airline pilots utilising Flight Crew Briefing Rooms (FCBR) for pre-flight planning, training for airline dispatch officers on meteorology, the introduction of a robust weather app for improved access to weather data, and the need to procure an Aviation Terminal Information System (ATIS) to ease the workload of Air Traffic Controllers.
