Jose Mourinho, the manager of Fenerbahce, has come under fire from the media this weekend following his team's league performance.

Fenerbahce played a 2-2 draw against Samsunspor at the weekend, leaving them in fourth position on the league table.

Mourinho was appointed by the Turkish side in the summer after failing to beat Galatasaray to the league last season.

However, since the start of the new season, they have struggled to keep up with the pace and are eight points behind Galatasaray.

Mourinho critisised by media

The media has criticised Mourinho and disapproved of his team's performance in recent games.

Volkan Demirel, a former goalie, was blunt in his criticism of the Portuguese head coach on TV100, saying, "Right now, Fenerbahce is mixed with unhappiness and hopelessness.

"We were all expecting something. We were expecting it from Mourinho, we were expecting it from the transfers made this year…

“We came this far, hoping that two months, two and half months would pass [and things would improve], but it is clear that this will continue..."

Ex-Fenerbahce midfielder Sergen Yalcin agreed to the comment on Ekol TV, adding, "Let's be a little proud of Okan's [Buruk, Galatasaray manager] successes and not criticise him.

“The guy has been making Galatasaray champions for two years. The kid is successful. If we criticise Mourinho today, everyone is right. You can't spend that much money and make them play like that."
