Notable personalities in the media, business and other industries commended the immediate past editor of The PUNCH, Dayo Oketola, at an ‘exaugural’ lecture and presentation of his book titled, The Catalyst: Nigerian ICT Evolution Through a Journalist’s Lens, held at the Shell Hall of the Muson Centre in Onikan, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

The event featured an impressive lineup of speakers, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and founder of the Love of Christ Generation Church, Reverend Esther Ajayi.

At the event, Obasanjo emphasised Nigeria’s potential to attract investment and foster economic growth. He underscored the importance of creating a conducive environment for investment and called for a commitment to character, understanding, and knowledge to transform Nigeria into a prosperous nation free from insecurity and hardship.

Oketola, in his address, tackled the challenges facing print journalism, highlighting the dual impact of social media and evolving readership demands as both hurdles and avenues for innovation. He also challenged the stereotype that age determines leadership capability, asserting that qualities such as dedication, creativity, and hard work are far more significant. He concluded by advocating for the inclusion of youth in editorial leadership roles.

The event was chaired by the former CEO of MTN Nigeria, Michael Ikpoki, with a book review presented by the Convener of the Centre for Social Media Research, Dr. Akin Olaniyan.

As the event drew to a close, attendees lauded Oketola for his insightful work, while acquiring the books for different sums of money.
