Ola Aina returns to Nottingham Forest training after Libya ordeal with Super Eagles

Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Ola Aina is back in training with Nottingham Forest after a challenging international duty in Libya.

The right-back travelled from England to represent Nigeria during the international break, featuring in both legs of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

Aina started in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where Nigeria claimed victory. However, the return trip to Libya was far from smooth.

The Nigerian delegation encountered difficulties upon their arrival for the matchday four fixture. Libyan officials made good on earlier threats to disrupt the Super Eagles’ plans.

The team’s flight to Benghazi was diverted to another city, leaving them with a two-hour drive to their destination. Upon arrival at Al Abaq Airport, the players and staff were kept in the arrival hall for hours, unable to leave.

After hours of delay, the Super Eagles finally managed to board a flight back to Kano, Nigeria. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) later thanked President Bola Tinubu for his intervention, ensuring the team’s safe return.

Following the ordeal, Aina has now returned to England and rejoined his club, Nottingham Forest. Photos of Aina back on the training ground quickly gained attention on social media, bringing relief to fans.

The 27-year-old defender is expected to be available for selection when Nottingham Forest takes on Crystal Palace in their upcoming Premier League match on Monday, October 21, 2024.
