Oshodi Calls for Private Sector Support as New ATTF President

Wahid Enitan Oshodi, newly elected President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), has urged the private sector to play a greater role in supporting table tennis in Africa.

Oshodi, who was unanimously elected as the 6th president of the ATTF, succeeds Egypt’s Khaled El-Salhy and praised his predecessor for his commitment to the sport.

“I have received overwhelming support, and the team we’ve built is highly motivated. We must commend the outgoing president for his excellent work, and we aim to continue from where he left off.

It’s time to elevate table tennis in Africa, alongside athletics, football, and basketball. Africa has immense young talent, and now is the time to help them reach the global stage,” Oshodi said.

Oshodi emphasized the need to diversify funding, calling on private and corporate bodies to invest in table tennis.

“We cannot rely solely on government and ITTF funding for tournaments and development. We need the private sector to help raise the sport’s profile and produce more superstars from Africa.”

The new president also stressed the importance of unity among African member associations, stating that working together is key to achieving progress for the continent.

Reelected Executive Vice President of Finance, Hajera Kajee of South Africa, hailed Oshodi’s election as a reflection of his achievements and expressed confidence in his leadership to transform African table tennis.

Olabanji Oladapo, recently elected to the ITTF Council, echoed Kajee’s sentiments, highlighting Oshodi’s passion for the sport and calling for collective support to surpass the successes of previous ATTF administrations
