The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola has approved the appointment of Igwe Kingsley Onyekachi as the  Substantive Registrar/CEO of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).

This appointment is a significant step in the Ministry’s efforts to reposition the CRFFN for better efficiency and management.

Onyekachi, 44, from Imo State, Nigeria, brings impressive credentials to the table, holding a master’s degree in Transportation and Logistics and being an active registered member of the CRFFN. His four-year term, as outlined in the CRFFN Act 2007, is expected to bring stability to the organization.

The appointment  was communicated through a letter signed by the Director, Maritime Services, Mr. Babatunde Sule. Onyekachi takes over from Mrs. Chinyere Uromta, who had been serving as the acting Registrar/CEO.

It’s worth noting that the CRFFN has faced significant challenges, including a crisis of confidence and insolvency, which led to unpaid salaries since January, however the Minister through  his intervention arranged a bailout loan to address the salary issue ¹.

Prior to Onyekachi’s appointment, there were reports of delays and controversy surrounding the selection process, The CRFFN Governing Council members had even called for the unbundling of the council amidst lingering face-off . However, with Onyekachi’s appointment, the CRFFN is expected to move forward with renewed focus and efficiency.
