The tragic incident happened on Tuesday night at approximately 11:30 pm.

According to Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, the tanker’s driver lost control near Khadija University while traveling from Kano to Nguru town in Yobe State. The accident led to a massive explosion, claiming numerous lives.

According to Punch, in addition to the fatalities, 55 people sustained injuries and were rushed to Ringim General Hospital. Due to the hospital’s limited capacity, some injured victims were transferred to the Federal Medical Centre Birnin Kudu.

Tragically, many lives were lost when people attempted to scoop fuel from the tanker after the accident, leading to the catastrophic explosion.

The severity of the burns made identification challenging, prompting preparations for a mass burial.

This heart-wrenching disaster highlights the risks associated with petroleum transportation and emphasizes the importance of exercising extreme caution in such situations.
