The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three of its officers for alleged extortion of money from motorists at the very busy Rumuokoro flyover in the capital city Port Harcourt
Confirming the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the Command was tipped off after a social media report showed the nefarious activity.
The CP Monitoring Unit under the leadership of CSP Grace Wonwu, placed the three rogue officers under surveillance before arresting them.
Their names were given as Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau.
They were accused of unprofessional conduct while out of uniform, and during a search, monies extorted from motorists were recovered from them.
The Command further confirmed that the officers have been detained and are awaiting appropriate disciplinary measures.
