Probe adultery allegation against suspended Jigawa commissioner, court orders police

A Kano State Upper Shari’a Court has directed the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone One, to investigate the suspended Jigawa Commissioner, Auwalu Sankara, over allegations of enticing a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.

The order was given by Judge Ibrahim Yola following a direct complaint filed by Nasir Buba, the husband of Tasleem, requesting the court to order a police investigation into the alleged relationship between his wife and Sankara.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the complainant’s counsel, Haruna Magashi, representing Sa’id Muhammad Tudun Wada, informed the court that they had “overwhelming evidence to prove the allegation against the two Defendants, including video, pictures, phone conversations, transfer of funds between them, among other evidence.”

On the other hand, Rabi’u Shuaibu Abdullahi, counsel to Tasleem Baba Nabegu, dismissed all the allegations against his client. He told the court that the couple had been separated for over a year due to “repeated mistreatment and abuse during their time together.”

He added, “All these allegations are untrue, and it was meant to tarnish her good reputation, which will prevent her from getting married again if he divorces her.”

Similarly, counsel to Auwalu Danladi Sankara, Barrister Aliyu Usman Hajji, described the accusations as politically motivated, aiming to damage Sankara’s image as a politician.

He said, “The issue was politically concocted by the complainant to tarnish the image of Sankara being a politician.”

He further urged the court to “order for open investigations into all these untrue allegations because my client was prosecuted on social media, which led to his suspension from the commissionership.”

In his ruling, Judge Yola directed the AIG, Zone One, Kano, to “investigate the matter thoroughly without harassment or arrest of anybody” and to submit the case to any State High Court for prosecution.
