SC Freiburg have confirmed an early contract extension for 18-year-old defender Bruno Ifechukwu Ogbus, reflecting their confidence in his potential and performance.

The Swiss youth international joined Freiburg from Grasshopper Club Zurich’s academy in January 2022, initially playing for the U19 team.

Ogbus made his senior debut at 17 in a third-tier match against Dynamo Dresden and has since progressed to the first team, starting in the DFB-Pokal away tie against VfL Osnabrück and making two appearances in the current Bundesliga campaign.

“Bruno had a great season with the U19s and caught our full attention with his appearances for the second team last year,” said sporting director Klemens Hartenbach.

“He has continued to develop seamlessly during training camp with the first team. His tackling and speed are striking, and his versatility across the back line is a real asset. We are delighted to be able to help him with the next steps in his development.”

Head coach Julian Schuster added, “He brings incredible energy to the pitch, which helps inspire others. He has an incredible amount to offer and shows great potential for further development.”

The details of the contract extension remain undisclosed, but the agreement underlines Freiburg’s commitment to fostering young talent within their ranks.
