Sokoto First Lady Urges Girls To Insist On Going To School

As part of the celebration of the International Girl-child Day in Sokoto,the first lady of the state, Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu expressed her continuous support to bridging educational barriers among girls in the state.

Aliyu said that her commitment to girls’ education is unwavering and will not relent on empowering and protecting all girl children by giving them sense of belonging in the society.

She encouraged the girls to stand for their educational rights, adding that without their support  nothing will be achieved, no matter the investment made.

The first lady added that the present administration is committed to the eradication of gender based violence and improving girls education in the state.

The girl- child international day is celebrated on 11 october yearly to support more opportunity for girls and increase awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide.

In Sokoto,this year’s celebration took a new dimension with a series of activities including an awareness campaign and career talk organised by AGILE team in collaboration with the Female Education Board and Noble Heart Foundation.

During the event which held at the Government House, the Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board, Professor Mustapha Namakka stated how girl child education is paramount to the present administration

“It is manifested in Governor Aliyu’s enthusiastic approach toward providing whatever it takes or needed in order to jubilate girls child education in the state”.

In the same vein,the AGILE coodinator in the state, Dr Mansur Isa Buhari stated that the international day of the girl child is a day that emphasises the significance and crucial role of the girl child not only in the house, but the community and the world at large.

He appreciated the effort of the first lady and the Female Education Board in supporting all the activities of AGILE in the state.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts by the first lady to the girls, and an open letter by the girls to the first lady.
